3 Things to Be Thankful for in Upper Marlboro

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we can almost taste turkey in the air, roasted to a perfect, golden crisp with all the fixings on the side. Of course, this food-heavy holiday is about more than getting a slice of Grandma’s famous pie and trying to fight off a nap before the big game ends. It’s a time to take into account all the blessings we have in our lives and to express gratitude.

Here at PMI EXPerience, we thought we would take some time to highlight a few of our very favorite things about the Upper Marlboro area that make us so thankful to call it home.

Rural living in a suburban setting
Niche has called Upper Marlboro “the perfect mix of urban and rural charm.” We couldn’t agree more. Upper Marlboro is small — and its suburban setting means that you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy quieter streets and close-knit neighborhoods. But we still have plenty of great restaurants and shopping that you would expect to find in larger cities. With ample farmland and community parks providing beautiful green backdrops, it’s a breath of fresh air to be thankful for.

Rich in history
As one of Maryland’s oldest surviving colonial towns, Upper Marlboro and the surrounding region is rich in history. It may be small, but the town itself still has a lot to offer. The almost 100 acres that make up the original older section is a Historic District on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. One distinguishing landmark is Darnall’s Chance House Museum. Here you can step back to experience life in the 18th century. This history lesson will make you thankful for modern advancements while making you appreciate what life was like then.

Proximity to so many places
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of living in the Upper Marlboro area is its proximity to Washington, DC. It’s a short commute, only half an hour or so of driving. There are also four bus routes to the city. If you’re looking for a great place for your family to live that is also convenient for working in the nation’s capital city, look no further than Upper Marlboro and the surrounding area.

If you’re just looking for something to do, you will find many different options. Close to home, you will find a variety of events at The Show Place Arena, from equestrian shows to college sports. If you’re looking for a bigger city to explore, Washington DC has a wealth of historical and seasonal activities and events. If you’re looking to get closer to nature, you have many choices. For the beach lover, North Beach is less than 30 minutes southeast. A walk on the beach on a cool, crisp autumn day is exhilarating. And fishing in the Chesapeake Bay is good in autumn, too. You can find numerous hiking trails in the parks, forests and sanctuaries nearby. We’re thankful to live in a region that has so many places to visit with so much to do.

Our love for this community is strong. We cherish it deeply and are so proud to call it home. Here at PMI EXPerience, we want you to love your home and your community as much as we do.
